REAL MADRID STAR CHRISTIANO RONALDO DISPARAGED BY FORMER MANAGER
JOSE MOURINHO
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticised his former charge at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger has scored a preposterous 201 goals in 199 appearances for Real Madrid, but is engulfed in contract talks with the Spanish capital side with no resolution in sight – leading to speculation he may seek a return to the Premier League with Manchester United.Despite having thrived under his compatriot Jose Mourinho at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, there was friction between the two, with Ronaldo trying to tell Mourinho how to do his job.“I had only one problem with him, very simple, very basic,” Mourinho told Spanish TV show Punto Pelota,.Which was when a coach criticises a player from a tactical view point trying to improve what in my view could have been improved.“And at that moment he didn’t take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him to develop more.“Cristiano has had three fantastic seasons with me, I don’t know if they were the best of his career because he had some fantastic moments with Manchester United.“I think we created a fantastic situation for him tactically in which he could express all his potential and turn that into records and goals.”As stated above, Ronaldo’s figures are hard to dispute, but there is a counter-argument that suggests that the team was totally built around him, leading to a lopsided, unbalanced side.Real Madrid’s game plan over the last three seasons has seemingly been ‘give the ball to Ronaldo so he can shoot,’ and it certainly worked in the 2011-12 campaign, but Mourinho’s point is valid. The next manager to take charge will have an interesting task on his hands shoe horning Ronaldo into his side – whether at Real Madrid or another club.
